I hate Second Guessing Oil Levels
Hi
Would like your opinion .
I just dropped the primary oil and rteplaced with HD primary product.
I did this in my tiny garage, squeezed between a lawn mower and a car in storage.
I had the bike on a stand on agarage floorthat isfar fromlevel.
Pour the recommend amount stated in the Manual which is 26 oz.
I dont see any oil at at the clutch basket level, because the bike is not level.
To get to the clutch inspection cover to see if the chain is submersed ,would be a pain because of lack of room.
I know I put 26oz in , so do I really have to second guess HD's recommendation? and mess around at trying to get the bike level to see whether it is at the clutch basket etc......or can I start her up (as soon as the snow has melted) and go riding?
thanks
Fred

RE: I hate Second Guessing Oil Levels
If the bike is not leaking.....why would you consider otherwise? 26oz out 26 oz. in....your done. Just be sure you are refilling with the correct amount. If you are worried, put a block of wood under the jiffy to get it level and pop the cover. Once you do that one time you will know for sure whether that is the correct fill amount. Not an issue on my bike since you have to pop the cover to put the oil in.

Thanks guys for the reassurance.
I know , I know , 26 out 26 in.
I should not have to second guess! It is stressful
It was damn hard to pour the oil into the derby cover opening. I had to go really slow and dribble the oil into the gap between, the casing and the clutch plate basket.
I am thinking next time I will pour it through the chain inspection cover opening.
Maybe that will be easier?

A friend of mine drains his oil into a measuring cup to see how much has drained. He then replaces that amount with new oil. He says that since there is no evidence of a leak he knows it will be full. He has used that same procedure for years without any problem.

measure what you take out put that back in.
If the bike is not level you may not drain all 26 oz out.
Even with mine level I have a container marked so I know how much came out.
I do this for all 3 holes.

You need to look and see if it covers the bottom of the clutch. It should be just barely up on the diaphragm spring. The ounces don't matter, the level does.
