You can switch anytime. Normally the first oil change is the most logical. I have an 03 Ultra Classic and it has had AMSOIL since the first oil change. Runs fine. We are doing a 113 inch kit and it will Have AMSOIL the first time it starts.

Try looking into Spectro Motorcycle Oil, they make tranny oil for the new six speeds. Forum members have posted that it has worked best for them, I have a older bike with straight cut tranny gears so I can't tell you the difference.

Look under new products, the other oils are under products.

I chage to syn oils at 100 miles and clean out all the breakin debris out. BTW, amsoil makes a 75w110 gear oil that will work great in the trans.

What? You haven't switched yet??? Just kidding, I usually do the break in with the oil that she came with. My opinion is that the conventional oil allows everything to break in and become seated properly and then at either 500 miles or 1,000 miles I change everything in bike over to synthetic, whether it is Amsoil or whatever. I personally do this, Amsoil 75W-90 Gear lube, and Amsoil MCV 20W-50 in the engine and the primary unit. It made a noticeable difference in the smoothness of the transmission and after things begin to break in even more, it gets better. I then change everything again at 6,000 miles and then go to every 5k on the engine and every 10k on the transmission and primary. Hope this helps.

thanks for the fast responses,i was hoping to to get in the oil topics being such that you can get 20 answers to a question. this 08 ultra is my first harley i will admit i am the greenhorn of greenhorns of my knowledge of these bikes. being 40 im tired of the pain of riding crotch rockets, sold my ducati so i guess i can say i had a v-twin.
anyway ive been reading alot on here and i think i will be around for awhile. im also considering going with mobil-1 oils i use mobil 1 in my trucks and cars and have been more than happy.
