take a big plastic drink bottle cut the bottom and top out then split it up the sides ,then all you dois slide it under your filter and the oil runs out where you want it to, takes a lil experimenting to git your cuts right, but thats how i GIT R DONE

Hey Reaper, go to eglidegoodies.com and check out Oil FilterChange Helper. It works on the same principle as the other two suggestions but ready made. I just used it to change the oil on my 08 SE Road King and it worked like a champ!!! Didn't spill a drop. Get this thing!! Worth every $

Change the oil right before a wash and don't worry about it. You can spray the oil with a little WD-40 to cut it, right before the wash.

If this is your first time, you're doomed no matter what recommendation is given. Put a plastic sheet under the bike and prepare for the worst. In time, it will get cleaner with practice.

Folded up newspaper under the filter to allow the oil to run down into a pan works pretty good also. Like the 2 litre bottle suggestion, it is also free.

Hello grim reaper, I hope you are not coming to see me soon. LOL

Anyway do a search for "oil mess" and there are a lot of ideas for freebie ways to do this. Or you can go look at some of the threads I have posted in and see how I do it with a plastic bag. It works for me. I think there was one from yesterday.

I put a piece of heavy plastic under the filter, then take a ice pick and put a hole on the bottom top part of the filter. Then put a couple at the bottom and let the oil drain to a pan. I usually leave it over night then pack a rag under the filter and spin it off. No oil will run anywhere except for a few drops on the rag. Can't be in a hurry this way though.
