Valvoline 4-Stroke Motorcycle Oil
#22
Funny how this post started out as a Valvoline post, but got turned into a Amsoil/mobil 1 post. I guess being it started over two years ago has something to do with it. When I had my '93 Evo, heat from the motor wasn't an issue. Never thought about it. But the '03 ultra scared me, at first as I thought it caught fire the first time I had to sit in some slow moving traffic. So I have been using Amsoil, but have been thinking of trying Valvoline 20/50 to see if there's much difference. For the price it seems very reasonable and I have tried it in my primary and can't tell any difference from Amsoil in there. Now I know alot of people say they don't like Harley's Hd 360, but if you look at the pol in the what engine oil do you use, there's alot of people that use it. Harley sells alot of it and claims it'll go 5k between changes .So if Hd360 can go that long Vavoline should be able to do it also with their mc specific oil. I'm willing to take a chance and spend less $$$ to see if there's any noticeable difference in heat, or consumption. Being my bike has a power commander and has been set up on a dyno, I'm thinking it will work with out issues.,,

There you go big cahuna; I see some guys say your bike will run 9 deg. cooler with synthetic. If you motor runs 280 deg. with dino, then it would run 271 deg. on synthetic. That is a whopping .03 % drop. Wow. Just me maybe, but I think any good dino will work just fine in the 20-50 range. Just to many high mileage bikes with it that you can not ignore.

I would definitely agree with your thinking. I would NOT use syn oil in a 1992 bike that had been run on dino.
