Default Cold Oil Pressure

Does anyone know what the cold oil pressure level should be in 40-50 degree weather? I'm running an 08 Street Glide using SYN oil.

Thanks in advance.

Do you mean cold oil pressure or cold oil level?

Oil pressure isn't measured cold- it's measured with the engine at operating temp at a specific rpm. According to the service manual for the '07's (and I believe the '08's are the same) the oil pressure should be 30-38 psi at 2000 rpm and at normal operating temperature of 230 degrees F. It is the same for synthetic or dino oils.

Cold oil level should be between the Add & Full marks on the dipstick.

My 06 A Motor reads about 32PSI cold, about the same as it reads accellerating , hot.

Dealer tested it when I had a sending unit issue and it read 38lbs cold with a mechanical unit, showing my sending unit , reading zip, was bad.

All of the TC engines shouldread over 34psi when dead cold under 50F. Then when hot on idle somewhere around 30-34. If you are below 30 when hot on idle take it in and have it looked at while you are still under warranty. (remember your idle should bebetween 900-1000rpm).

The syn oil will give you a slightly diffferent reading (lower) under 50 degrees F when cold because it pumps faster than dino but only for a few minutes.

KB, are you sure about the hot idle at 30lbs? Mine reads under ten lbs . hot at idle and so do most of my buds. Dealer explanation is that it is a VOLUME oiling system and pressure fluctuates with heat and RPM, higher the heat, lower the pressure and higher the rpm, in theory, the higher the pressure.

Never heard of one running that high at idle, hot. In fact, my 06 Touring service manual calls for 30-38 Lbs. at 2000 RPM and cautions that cold readings are very inaccurate. Stands to reason that at idle pressure would be considerably lower than at 2K, no?

Mine reads under 10 at hot idle as well, which is the norm according to my dealer's service manager. Hi volume, low pressure...
