Default Another filter question...

My 2007 Streetglide now has 8004 miles and it's time to drop the fluids.
I have used HD oil and Formula + for the trans and primary since my second change.
I have tried out Mobil 1 V Twin and Mobile 1 for the trans and primary, but I experience
excessive valve train noise and the "clatter" was worse. So I went back to DINO HD Oils...
I still use the HD OIL, but I bought a Fram PH6065a Chrome filter.

My question, Is this filter as good as the HD filter?

Do a Google search on "motorcycle filter comparisons." You'll get some good information from those who have cut open many different brands for comparison. Fram always comes in at the bottom for quality.

Not sure how much you're paying for the Fram, but the HD is a high-quality filter with a 5-micron rating, and the black one can be had from the dealer for about $8.

a question for ya, how long do you really plan on owning that bike? alot of folks say "forever" then the next loud, shiney, flashy paint job they run into gets them to trade or sell old faithfull. so being honest with your self, use a tried and true filter and oil and dont worry about passin the bike on to your grandkids. I owned 1 bike for 26 years. then I sold it because I was bored with it, and could'nt trust it not to leave me stranded somewhere.

For the most part if it's metal, and it floats through the filter, it'll stay in the filter because that's what filters do- catch & hold stuff you don't want floating through your engine.

Considering the average Harley will easily go well over 100,000 miles using a decent oil and good filters, magnets just don't make much sense...

Lost1in Australia we get charged $25.64 for HD filter and over $12 for formula +.With the price of $8 why would you look for other filters?
Wondering if there is any way of getting cheap hd filters in Australia instead of going to the stealers and paying over the top?

Might be worth it for you to check and see what air shipping would be and have someone in the states buy a case of filters or just a few to get you through a yearand ship themdown to you.

Or buy 5 or 10 from one of the big online HD dealers. Even with shipping it would have to be less than $25 each...

i have been running fram filters on my 85 for almost 20 years and never had a problem with them. the motor has never been apart.
