Synthetic Oil, how many miles?

RE: Synthetic Oil, how many miles?
If your going to change your oil every 3K then stick to Dino oil.If your going to use synthetic ( I use Mobil One) I go 4-5K all the time. Most all riders I ride with do the same with zero issues. I never could understand why anyone would spend the xtra $ on syn oil and change at 3K. Dino oil is fine to that point as is well proven over the past ten years and millions of miles logged throughout the country.

RE: Synthetic Oil, how many miles?
If you search around, someone posted an article where a lab tested syn oils after many miles like 5K, 10K, etc.
If I remember correctly the very earliest signs of minor degredation was around 7K, but it was insignificant.
Regardless, arguing about oil on the HD forum is like...

5000 miles with Amsoil.
If changing your oil sooner makes you feel safer then go for it.
There are many, many opinions on this subject. If you do a search you can read for days, then your head will spin for weeks!

5k With mobil 1 v-twin, and h-d primary oil, 10k on the tranny with Redline shock proof heavy and even that is probably too soon. Got to remember on the tranny its just gears, in my high HP Diesel (which makes 7 times the power of the bike) it says to change every 60k.

I change my oil every 4-5000 miles, whether it needs it or not! I did a 500 mile, 1000 mile, and 5k, and am coming up close ona 10k.

Think about this for a minuet, who tells you to change your oil every 3k miles? The oil companies, now who tells you that you can change your oil every 5k miles? Harley does. Who warrantys the motor primary and tranny on your bike? HD does, now dont you think, if you were an oil company, that if you could scare everyone into thinking that they had to change your oil every 3k miles that you would make alot more money? Just think about it.

I have used Mobil 1in my bike since the 5K service. Now has over 45K....Changed oil every 5K andengine doesn't use a drop of oil. I also use the scavenger too remove all the old oil. Use Belray Gear Saver in the tranny, change it around 15K and use Mobil1 or Syn 3 in primary (whichever I have on hand). I expect to at the very least double what is on the clock before I have to rebuild.,

Don't know about bikes but my BMW with syn oil suggest every 15000K so if standard bike is 2 I think 7 to 8K would be fine. I'm sure a dealer can answer for sure
