Oil leaking from Air cleaner
Hi
Just joined so this may be a silly question.
I have been away on business for a few months and started the bike back up (92 fxrs-conv). The bike fired with no problems but there is oil leaking from the air cleaner - seems to be running ok so any ideas?

I would check to see how mucth oil is in the bike that is one reason for the oil in the air filter, or some how you got to much pressure in your crank case.
that is why you get oil in the filter area....

Its blow back from the engine case my 91 softtail did the same, if you don't run the motor for awhile this will happen. In fact you may see as much as 1/2 a quart gushing out. Install a crankcase vent and the oil will drip out a drain hose under the bike after the first startup.

could be the check ball in the oil pump has some debris lodged in the seat causing the oil to leak by it and fill the crank case. Kind of common on a bike that has sat for awhile. Check the oil level in your oil resevoir, probably not much in there because it down in the case. I'd drain the cases and refill the oil bag with oil.

Thanks for the replies. The resevoir looks fine and it seems to happen less each time i fire it up. The local dealer thinks it may be "wet sumping" and said just to take it for a long run and that should help clear it up. Fingers crossed for some good weather this weekend.
