I prefer OEM- $8.99 from the dealer, & with the 20% off I get since I bought my bike there they come to $7.21 each.
Not too much for a good filter, IMO...

Wix,51348 ?? Been using this for quite awhile and no problems.
Or NAPA 1348 - made by Wix. Also works on the Ma-in-Law's 2006 Ford Focus.

Yes, I have heard that the NAPA Premium filters are made by Wix and are a little cheaper. I use a Wix filter in my Esprit.

Keep in mind, though, that the 22R filter I use is the same as used on Evo motors like my 86 big twin and my wife's 87 883. I don't know if the later motors use the same filter or not.

for pocoj....the napa and wix websites ,are the same of course, but contradictory...i use the wix 51348 and the crossref.filter from napa has different specs.ie.....one has larger micron filtration, which is what the Evo needs i thought.I used the year of the MC to look at each filter....One filter offers 24 micron and the other, which is the Wix 51348 offers 19.One offers anti drain back and the other doesnt((napa). The one I use offers it ,which is what I believe to be the right one.....pocoj my man form Texas, set me straight as I have always used your advice in the years i have been here.

Interesting info there. I've never looked at the sites, but sounds like it'd be worth the time. I never worried about the anti-drainback on my bike. The location of the filter and lines pretty much make it impossible for any oil to leave the filter. That was one of the reasons I remounted the filter vertically, with the lines entering the top. As far as the filtration, my feeble memory says that the original Evo filters were 30 micron. I doubt it'd be much problem using the 19 micron, but it might start by-passing during an extended oil change interval.

Twinkie filters are 10 micron, IIRC. Not s'posed to use Twinkie filters on Evos. Had one guy tell me he did with no problem. I asked how he knew there was no problem 'cause it was possible the Twinkie filter simply by-passed when the delta-p got high enough, and that probably happened well before he changed oil/filter.

Did you happen to see what the difference is between the NAPA Silver and NAPA Gold versions? Guess I'll head on over and take a gander.

I got to lookin' at the Wix site and back thru my maintenance records. I've used both the 51348 and 51215 (and their NAPA equivalents) on my '87 Evo. The x1215 is the 24 micron, and the x1348 is the 19 micron.

American Irondid a bit on filters and it led me to - OMG - Amsoil.
But you are correct you need to understand the bypass pressure for the filter. If the filter is over 10psi - dont use it.
Otherwise do the math.
