user 'opinions' will vary greatly...if you truly want to know what's best for your engine's lubrication requirements simply follow your motorcycle owners manual instructions.. which are provided by the professional subject matter experts who designed, developed, tested, produced and provide warranty on their engines

5K, just like the owner's manual says.

The oil is still fine at 5k miles, the only benefit of changing it sooner is it makes more money for the companies that make oil and filters, and all the middle men.

and you know it's fine because...?
I run vr1 and change it every 2500 to 3000 miles. How you ride makes a big difference and I wouldn't run 5000 just because you're running synthetic. I'd run vr1 5000 before a lot of the synthetic MC oil Some break down sooner than a good conventional. Especially motorcycle oil aka oil designed to work in wet clutches.

As for cost of changing sooner than later? Who cares. Oil is cheap. I pay 3.99/qt for vr1.
if you're dumb enough to pay $15 /qt for an inferior designer MC oil...

it's fine because manufacturers building engines say it is..this applies to HD, Toyota, John Deere, Evinrude, Ford, Briggs & Stratton, Toro, etc.....they know more than you about their engines..it really is that simple

I sent a sample of the oil to a lab at 5K and the results said the oil was fine, that is how I know.

I don`t care how often you change your oil, or your reasons why.

I`m confident in the way I maintain my machines and the advice I give to people, based on 50 years of experience as a professional mechanic (42 years as a licensed airframe and powerplant mechanic).

VR1 has high levels of zinc but lower levels of detergent. VR1 should be changed more often.
