Yes on the oil filter.

I figure I'll send them another sample at around 20-22k miles and if it stays consistent, yeah why not.

okee dokee..once they get too dirty they have bypass valves so you lose filtering benefits..which after all, filtering contaminants from your engine is their main purpose in life but if you're ok with that then...

@mjwebb
Many cars have 15K oil change intervals (Porsche, BMW, etc.). They use the same filtration media as HD or any name-brand filter. The factory-recommended oil change intervals on my '20 and '21 Triumphs are 10K miles, and I will adhere to that. These bikes, however, are water-cooled.

5K is where I draw the line on on air-cooled engines. The protective additives in the oil break down from the heat. Newer engines don't shed much metal, so the filter will be fine. And while a Blackstone report will tell you what's in the oil, it can't decipher in terms that can be understood what's missing from the oil, i.e. protective additives.

Over-maintenance is an avoidable cost. These aren't your Granddad's oils or engines.

If there are enough contaminants in the oil system to clog a filter (causing it to bypass) between oil changes, there is a serious issue that will soon be evident (and would clearly be noted in the lab results).

If the oil sample is good and the lab says ok to go 10,000 miles, there are not enough particles in the filter to worry about.

I think one thing ya'll are forgetting is the predominant use of High Flow air filters, wether you believe it or not, they also flow more dirt to the engines which in turn contributes to..well you know what...I'm fine with my Toyota 10K or annual oil and filter changes..but Harleys with exposed filter elements that are more porous than OEM paper filters and have airborne contaminants force fed simply let more dirt into the engine and dirt is the enemy....I won't let a HD oil filter go longer than my 5 k oil changes under any circumstances...I think the more clogged the oil filter media gets the lower the oil pressure can get right? ..we can all disagree which really doesn't matter
