Default Fuel/Oil Hose

91 FLHTC with 2005-built S&S V96. Several projects taking place.

First, R&R oil lines and clean oil tank. Whoever threw this motor in had the oil lines so jumbled up and rubbing each other that a couple look to be wearing through!

Deciding on type of oil hose...our oil system is relatively low PSI, correct? Oil hose with a high PSI rating 100-225 I’m seeing, would be less flexible than say a Gates hose rated at around 50 psi? Need a good trade off to route hoses. Don’t want the stuff too stiff.

Also seeing Marine rated at about 40-50psi Type A (whatever that is)

Been looking at the 3/8 hose on RockAuto
https://www.rockauto.com/en/tools/ho.../+hose,1001642

Recommendations much appreciated.

I use Goodyear SAE 30R9 hose.

You can also use transmission fluid hose, SAE J1019.

ONE IMPORTANT parameter you need to check and that is temperature, it does effect rating. if you want a good looking setup and do not mind the cost, stainless wire braided hose.

Roger that on the temp rating. For this (mechanically sound...in a couple months) rider, I’m going to stick with black rubber. Already have Oeitker clamps on the way. I’ll be rerouting lines though. Feed and breather over the top of tranny, to free up space behind trap door for an electrical harness and return oil line from the cooler.

I’m almost decided on the SAE 30R7 stuff that comes on the Jagg coolers. They sell it as an accessory. https://jagg.com/collections/hose/pr...31893579956320

Whoever built this bike had it looking like an LA freeway behind the trap door, and everything rubbing and chaffing etc etc. Even the rear brake line was involved with this mess and partly worn through under the transmission. Unfreeeeeking real what people do.

As a licensed aircraft mechanic for over 41 years I have come to hate braided hose...

I have been poked by those little strands a zillion times. It needs to be clamped properly to keep it from hack sawing whatever it comes in contact with.

The SAE spec hoses I quoted earlier will withstand the oil temperatures easily.

As a 41 year Air Force and airline pilot (retiring in Apr) I’m going to go with my aviation mechanic brother and stick with the rubber. I know my limitations.
