Default 20w-50 in Primary?

I am leaning towards putting full synthetic 20w-50 in my primary, 07 RK Classic - either Amsoil or Mobil 1. Any thoughts?

IMHO, putting synthetic in your primary is a waste of money, but that's just me. I run synthetic in the tranny and crank and use HD Formula + in the primary.

I second that opinion!! The primary really does not benefit from the use of synthetic or even the most expensive stuff in there. I recommend ANY cheap 10w40, 15w40, or 20w50 in there. Formula Plus is fine as well......I just don't justify the cost compared to cheap motor oil. Many claim ATF works fine....probably does great with the clutch, the open bearing maybe another issue though.

Your money....cheap stuff is just as good as the expensive stuff in there.

I run Mobil V Twin in the motor, Mobil 75W/90 in the tranny and Formula + in the primary..would have to agree with the other posting here...no need to waste alot of $$ in the primary..

Yep, my opinion as well. The primary fluid is just lubbing the clutch and primary chain. I do change mine every 5K however, since clutch material gets in the lube and probably isn't too great for the chain.

All the above are right, hell HD spec 10000 mile changes on dino oil. I use MTL but as stated above I'm probably wasting my money. I know it dosent make sense, but I'm happy.

Whatever floats your boat.
FWIW,I use Mobil 1 15w50 in the engine,Mobil 1 75w140 in the transmission, and HD 20w50 dino in the primary. When the HD oil is gone,I will use whatever 20w50is cheapest.

One benefit of running the 20w50 synthetic in the Primary is you only have at most 2 types of oil to keep in a bag for those long trips instead of 3 bottles.

Personally I would run Formula+, but that's just me.
I have MTL in my primary now only because it came in the Redlineoil change kit I bought. While it is without a doubt a fine lubricant, I saw no change at allin relation to the Formula+ that was in there.

When I change it out at 10k I'll just go back with Formula+.
