amsoil 60 tw race oil
Has anyone with a twin cam tried using Amsoils straight 60 wt racing oil? I tried mobil i v twin and when its hot, it looks as thin as syn3 or dino oils and the motor clicks and ticks so much it annoying. went for a ride today it was 94 out and the motor sounded like it had 200k miles on it. checked the dipstick temp when I got home read 225 .

Excellent oil; but not for a Twin Cam. You'll create mucho wear on startup with that heavy stuff in there. Plus, most racing oils are formulated for short term use, and it might not have the additives that will help protect against acidity.
225 is not hot on a new bike, and definitely way cooler than most Twinkies run. If your motor is sounding as you say, there is something else going on.

pococj, I was wondering about the additves thing also. thats why I asked . as far as being noisy I really noticed it after the oil change from hd dino 20/50 to mobil1vtwin..plus in the manual they recommend heavyer oil when the temp is over 80.it is hot out and I could not find a 60 wt that said it was synthetic except the amsoil stuff..Im not impressed with the mobil vtwin stuff.

brian, went to the redline site you listed I was thinkin here we go but it does'nt say in so many words that the 20/60 is good for the twin cam. only loose fit motors. do you use it? my bike is a '03 with low miles just dont like hearing all the parts working internally.Im thinking the 20/50 gets too watery when it gets up to operating temp or when its hot out.

BC, the Redline site says 20/60 is good for loose fit bikes AND twinkies run in warm climates.
I have run it for ten K now and it is good stuff. So is Amsoil 20/50 but my top end is quieter with the Redline 20/60. At startup, oil pressure is up as quickly as with Amsoil and can't see any downside since its a multigrade and you can even run it at considerably lower temps than Summer temps. Even HD lists 60 wt as acceptable at eighty degrees and above, the multigrade of the Redline extends this down considerably.
