redline heavy shockproof....isn't it too heavy?
I just purchased my first harley 3 weeks ago, a 2007Road King Customand during my 1000 mile serviceI'm leaning towards synthetic Amsoil20W50 for the engine anda synthetic 75W140 for the tranny. Being involved with heavy truck maintenance for years, I'm not sure why folks are going with the Redline Heavy Shockproof, which from what i found is a 75W/250 weight. I've never put anything that thick in a heavy truck tranny or rear application before and wonder if it's too heavy for a bike tranny.Won't the heavier gearoil in the tranny causetheengine to work harder, producing less fuelmileage?Granted as the operating temps increase, the oil will thin out a bit, but it still will be thicker than a 75W/140.I live in south florida and would like to know what others are thinkingby using theheavy shockproof in their machines. I do understand that some people are using this heavier gear oil to quiet their 5th gear issue. I also see that Amsoil makes a 75W/110 gear oil along with the 75W/90 and 75W/140. Is anyone using the in between 110 gear oil? Any advice would be appreciated.

Before I started using it years ago I emailed RedLine and its what they suggested from their products.When I got my 07 I emailed them again to check it was ok with the 6 speed, they reccd it again.

the stealer in fort myers fl. sells the red line products, i just had my 1000 mile done and had them put the redline products in all three holes. redline mtl in primary, heavy shockproof in tranny, and 20-50 in crankcase.. some other fellows ther said redline is some goos stuff....................... deano

I put Redline Vtwin tranny fluid in my 6 speed when I hit 1,000 miles just recently. Almost immediately I no longer had a problem finding neutral. Good stuff.
