Well, that is true that the Twin Cam does run somewhat hotter than the EVO. The only Twin Cam I have is the 1999 Dyna Convertible. It has around 40,000 miles on it, but it has never seen synthetic though. I used Castrol GTX, HD360, Revtech, Twin Power, and other aftermarket 20w50 for summer months without any trouble. This bike never saw 15w40 other than in the primary. The only thing was the cam bearing went out at around 10,000 miles and the chain tensioners were nearly shot at 30,000 miles....but these problems were not oil related. The bike has never burned or leaked any oil....and the oil/filter was always changed around 5,000 miles.

I don't believe Rotella 15w40 is synthetic. I also use Motorcraft, Castrol 15w40, and other off-brands 15w40. Diesel oil is pretty good stuff.

If I were to use synthetic, it would probably be Mobile One 15w50. It is rated good, priced reasonable, and can be found almost anywhere. I've actually have seen it for less than the most expensive regular oils out there! My future oil changes could very well be this stuff.....but never in the transmission or primary though.

Amen to that, my hat's off to iclick too. I get very tired of seeing the select few dealers pop in on every steeeeenking oil thread and wave the BS flag at anything but the marvelous amsoil that does everythingfrom lowering oil temps 750 degrees, increase mileage by 87% and out perform every oil on the marker (according to them). If that spiel doesn't work then they have the "white papers" to wave at you, cheesh .
GUYS.... give it a rest and post something else other than the sales pitch for profit will ya? It gets very tiring to see you few only post on oil all the time and how great amsoil is...bla bla bla.
I wouldn't use it because of the way it's pounded into people like above as being the greatest thing since sliced bread.
It's all about profit.........[:@]

Smart man!!!
There are many excellent oils like Mobil 1 VT or redline, royal purple to mention only a few that will do just as good a job as that other brand without all the hype.

No it sounds like something printed in the white papers . Have you read them recently?

I'll bet there are some here that have a printed copy next to thecan to read whilst taking care of business

I finally found some Amsoil locally at Atwoods. It's great oil, but it's about a $1 more than Lucas. I would probably run Amsoil in the bike but you can't buy it at O'Reilly's like you can Lucas synthetic...
