The biggest cause of stuck filters is not over tightening, it is lack of lubrication on the gasket.
If you make sure there is some oil on the gasket before installing, it will come off no problem.

 

When I find a stuck oil filter, I wrap a layer of anti skid tape around the filter and then put a strap wrench around it and it comes right off.
