Default Primary oil capacity...wet or dry?

Sorry, another **** question from me, while working on my clutch. So, I drained the primary, pulled the primary cover, and replaced the clutch Diaphram Spring. After adjusting the clutch, I'll button it all up and refill with Formula+.

Yikes! The manual says the capacity is: 38oz wet, 45 oz dry.

So, is my primary wet or dry? I assume this has to do with restrained fluid. But with the primary cover off for 2 days, it's hard to believe it has retained 7 oz.

How much should I fill it with in this situation?

Thanks!

wet is drained out the plug. dry is cover removed. either way start with a quart and fill to level specified, bottom of clutch with bike level.

Just fill to the correct level. Doesn't matter how much that is, just have around 45 oz available. The quantities you mention are a guide, not the amount you simply pour in without checking the level is correct!

"Wet" = a primary that has been drained
"Dry" = a clean, newly assembled primary. The clutch, chain, sprockets and all the interiors surfaces will hold more oil than you think.

This is the correct max level for any big twin clutch since mid 1985, (a little lower than this won`t hurt a thing).

Bike vertical.
