What kind of oil do you use in your Harley

RE: What kind of oil do you use in your Harley
I'll be watching this thread. I'm still on the standard stuff at the moment but am thinking of going synthetic at the 5,000 service. Trouble is not much choice available over here (apart from SYN3) and very expensive - I was looking at some mobil 1 synthetic car oil today - 35UKP - that's nearly $70US at current exchange rates for 4 litres.
What's the SYN3 really like? I've heard conflicting opinions on whether it's really worth the extra expense. I quite like the look of the Amsoil, but I haven't found anyone selling it here yet. I'd guess that if I can find some, then it's gonna be expensive too.

I'll be going with SYN3 next change. At the rate I'm going, it's going to be awhile before I get to change the oil.

I run Mobil 1 V-Twin Synthetic in all three systems on my 1992 FXSTC and I just had the dealer put the Harley Synthetic in my 2004 FLHTCUI. The price difference is about 50 cents here per quart and I swear by the synthetic oil as it keeps the engine much cooler and it lasts a lot longer.

I have been using SYN3 since my bike had 1,800 miles on it.
It is now $8.49 a guart and I change my oil at 4,000/4,500 miles.
I can get Amsoil for $4.85 a guart, so I will change over in a few weeks.
I will put 4,000 miles on in 3/4 weeks[8D]

Mobil1 v-twin supersynthetic is best in my opinion, based on some reading I have done on the subject (see http://www.mobil1.com/motorcycle/index.jsp. Going to a full synthetic for v-twin motors, regardless of brand, seems to be the way to go.

Hi howartthou
I wasn't thinking of using the car synthetic, just comapring prices. I reckon the v twin oil will be even more expensive. I will probably go with Syn 3 as its the mos available. It breaks my heart to see the prices these guys pay in the States. What's it like in Aus?
