I'm at 1000 miles and can't get the bike in for the 1000 mile service. I'm going to do the engine and tranny oil myself. I know the harley oil works in both but I'm just curious what some of you guys might think of that oil and what else you run.

 

I went from HD Dino to Mobile 1 20/50 V-Twin. I could not see that the bike was any better with the more expensive, hard to find oil, so I'm going back to HD 20/50 Dino. I'm not even going with the semi-synthetic.

I change oil every 2,500 miles so heat breakdown and contamination are not real worries for me.

This is one man's opinion, and you will certainly get conflicting opinions on this subject. I have rarely, if ever heard of an oil related engine failure if the oil and filter are changed regularly with a good quality motor oil of specific grade for the application.

Howdy, I think that you will find that there are a lot of different ideas about what kind of oil to use in your new Harley. So far, I've been using regular HD oil and I haven't had any problems. I know that there are a lot of people that like to run the synthetic in their Harleys, so sit back and listen to all the different ideas that might come along. Good luck

 

2006Ultra, I would go to the oil forum and read all about the oil there, I think that would help you the most.

 

I did a search and read some posts. I did not know there was a mobile V twin oil? I think I'll just run the basic HD oil until I get to the dealer. Should I do the tranny now or wait? I think I can get to the dealer in the next 500 miles.

Thanks! I'm gonna lower is 1" all the way around and try and get a better stance. I've put on chrome calipers since this picture. I think this winter I'm gonna do something with the paint?

Just ride her till you get her in the shop. (With-in reason). I bought my 05 FLSTCI June 22, I had 1000 miles in two weeks. July 4 was in my sights and the Stealership could not get me in for another week. I explained to them that I bought her to ride, not wait for services at their convenience. The stealership assured me that going over 1000 miles a bit will not void the warranty. All was fine, changing her fluids at 1600 miles. Just finished doing her 5K service. HUMMMMMMM what should I buy with that $250 in labor I saved. PS, I'm using AMSOIL in all three.
