Default Quick oil change tip

Just did my first oil change on my bike. Looking at the oil filter I knew it was going to do some slobbering. Looked around the shop and saw and old left over piece of plastic rain gutter. Cut a piece 7 1/2 inches long.

It fits real nice under the filter.

And keeps everything off the bike.

Now obviously if you dont have some of this laying around its not worth doing. If I didnt see it laying in the corner I would have just cleaned up the few drops of oil with a rag

Well done! My older bike has the filter under the trans, but when draining my oil bag/tank on the side of the bike I use the cardboard tube from the middle of large paper towel rolls for the same purpose, of directing the oil into a bowl. That deals with most generations of touring bikes!

Nice tip. When I had my rain gutters replaced, the guys left me some extra pieces. Now I know why.

My choice isn't as clean, but I just use a small piece of formed cardboard and toss it when I'm done.

Hi there

I just use an empty plastic coke bottle with the ends cut out and long enough to do the same thing as the plastic gutter. Works a treat and throw away after use.

Cheers
