Can heavy-duty diesel oil be used in motorcycles?
#21
where did you get this info mr. gunner??
i have been around many diesel engines, some you could chuck an hd in and roll it over and spit out a pancake. the american braum engine was a double acting engine (fired on both sides of the piston) and had a glass window on the front of the engine which you could see into the c/c and see 3000hp rotating assy and never seen any foaming. as a fact, most modern oils use anti-foaming additive since entrained air in the oil reduces lubrication and load carrying capabilities.

Please post your research on this one. Excessive foaming, and diesels need that?

I’ve used HEDO oil since almost new on my 14 Road King.
It fits HD diesel recommended oil perfectly.
Mystik 15/50 JT8 semi syn, have now roughly 27,800 miles using this oil.
Posted at least 4 UOAs on bob is the oil guy, all came out perfect.
Major oil company Citgo brand which I believe makes HD oil but can not confirm nor do I care.
2 gallon jugs roughly $27 or so, I get it delivered from Rural King, or you can order it direct.
BTW Harley oil is also formulated like diesel oil, there is no debate, I used the oil the engine maker recommends not hearsay in a forum)

hah! Is that yellow or red?
I should've added "or so I've heard " or something along those lines as I've never really researched detergent packages at all except for the oil I use being it's categorized a race oil.
A good engine builder I knew quite some time ago(V8s) swore by it and I had no reason to doubt him. Still don't years later and knowing first hand how filthy dirty diesels run, it made/makes sense to me. So unless you've actually researched it or observed your oil at high rpm, I wouldn't just dismiss it either.
He said he wouldn't have an issue running it for break in tho. So take it for what you will.
Diesels don't run at 6000rpm or anywhere near it either so whether it foams in them is irrelevant. It's also black as the ace of spades 10 miles down the road from an oil change.

who says that diesels do not turn up to 6k.
now your motorcycle does not run top rpm under full load 24/7 either.
does black mean dirty????? NOT!!!!!
some ocean going ships turn in really high run hours, i recall one reaching nearly 500,000 hours on an oil change using shell rotella. i believe the standard now for detroit is 500 hours.
a true race oil is not superior in many ways to a good quality oil being that it has a very short life and does not require much other than heat control.
i have used industrial oils since the 1960's and never had an engine failure. matter of fact, just until recent, i never pulled the drain plug on any of my vehicles that i could put my frantz filter system on and i usually run it till the wheels fall off.
my 1974ch had around 170k when i tore it down for frame restoration, bird in hand, i up the ponies and a .010 over-bore cleaned it up, crank pin wear not measurable.
so i do not use mc oil, race oil or special oils, i'll just stick to my series 3 diesel oils.

Using that idea, if I take a trip and average 55 miles per hour, the oil won`t start breaking down until it has 19,800 miles on it...
