Five of us are headed to your fine state at the end of next month and we're looking for some local advice on some great roads to ride. The only for sure thing we have planned is to see Gettysburg. Other than that we are wide open to suggestions. I would like to maybe get into West Virginia since I haven't ridden there. If we are going to be in the eastern part of the state we would be open to Maryland or New Jersey.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

wv does have some really nice areas to ride

 

If you are coming anywhere near philly you should check out River road/Rt 32 along the Delaware river. You can hit Washingtons Crossing and cross over into NJ and run 29 up the river also. From 32 you can just take a turn and ride some of the nicest roads around. Also check out rt 313. There are some great stops along both roads. Also Rt 73 all the way into Lancaster is a nice ride. Don't for get Valley Forge while you are here.

 

The best riding in the whole state is the northwest quarter --- anything west of route 15, and anything north of interstate 80. From Gettysburg, north on 15, almost all the way to NY will get you things like The Grand Canyon of PA. Route 6 is a nice scenic ride. Google these things --- PA Grand Canyon, Kinzua Bridge State Park, Kinzua Dam, Benezette PA, Hyner View. They're all near route 6 west, and then down from Kinzua Dam to route 120 to come back east. (Well, Benezette & Hyner View are near 120!) 120 ends in Lock Haven PA. From there, follow 220 south which becomes interstate 99 south. (Nice ride. No traffic for an interstate.) Take 99 to Cumberland MD, and then interstate 68 toward WV. BEAUTIFUL ride & scenery on 68. So, north on 15, west on 6, south on 219, east on 120, south 220, east on 68.

Route 281 by youghiogheny lake. Route 381 ohiopyle state park. Old route 40. Route 26. route 30. route 6. state route 2001 wykoff run near sinnamahoning. on and on and on.

 

Thanks guys! We are going to take this info and sit down and plan our route. I assume the week leading up to Labor Day will be busy there so we want to get reservations for KOA's and wherever else so we have a place to stay.

+1 on the PA Grand Canyon. Also don't forget to check out the York HD factory. It is a awesome tour of where final assembly happens on most HD bikes. Also lots of roads up and around the Pocono's. Have fun.

 

Poconos is a toilet. Lots of traffic too. Too much to enjoy a ride. NYC idiot drivers there for the weekend. Stay about a hundred miles west of the poconos & you'll have fun. Anything west of route 15, and north of interstate 80.

Make sure you do the longer western route. the guides are great and you will be facinated by the history there even if your not into that sort of thing. Oh and the segways...If youve never been on one they are a blast and the guides will let you have some real fun
