I live about three miles west of the campground. I don't care for G'burg Bike week..... of all the Bike events I've been to it's my least favorite... and that's too bad since I live here.

BUT.... there is some awesome riding in this area and some biker friendly Bars and Pubs.
One piece of advice I will give you... stay out of Ventura's in Fairfield. The owner is a dumb ***.

I can point you to some decent rides and Pubs if you have never been in the area before.

I just saw that you're from Crofton. My wife grew up in Glen Burnie and I'm from Baltimore......... we gave up the Maryland life about 18 years ago.

I'm going to be headed up early Saturday morning to find some good areas to ride. If you can point me in the direction of some good roads I would appreciate it. We don't plan on going to any of the local pubs but we are going to go to watch Kix play at the campground. When that's over we will head back to our hotel in town to get a good nights rest before doing some more riding the next morning.

I am active duty military and am currently stationed over at Fort Meade. I'm getting ready to retire but I'm going to stay in this area even though it's a fortune to live here but my daughter likes her High School and I have a decent government job that will do for another few years.

No word yet that I've heard locally. When I hear something I'll post it. I'm guessing that it WILL happen. All the road improvements that stopped it last year are completed. And the casino got voted down so the same staging area used in the past can be used again.

Brian.... On some good rides.....
Head WEST on Route 30 and just keep going. It will be about 15 miles or so before you get thru Chambersburg but once you do, the ride is awesome. You literally cross right over the peak of the mountain. You can stop right there at the mountain house for a drink or rest..... the view from their deck is awesome.
You can also take route 233 north off of route 30 about 8 miles or so outside of Gettysburg..... just past Bobby A's. That's a nice ride thru a park... especially on a hot Summer day. A word of caution though.... radar is on that road a good bit.

I recommend the first ride because the ride down the other side of the mountain is GREAT. Once down you can travel in a big loop back up and over one of the other mountains and come out back on 30 to haed back to your place. This will be about 3 hours or so. Great ride.

If you want a couple guys to ride with when you come, let me know. We'll load up the wives and join you. No offense taken if not.

One more thing.... I heard the in and out at the campground on Kix night last year was brutal. One small road in and out. It apparently took a good bit of time both ways. We opted for beers and homemade BBQ on my deck with our riding friends.
Plan ahead if you're going to that. I love Kix but I'm not willing to fight that.

Default Gettysburg Bike Week

I'm thinking about heading to Gettysburg Bike week. I live about 3 1/2 to 4 hours away and plan on staying 2 nights. Does anyone have much info on this? Good or bad is it worth going to this? Thanks for any info.

A few of us went last year. Had a great time riding. Bars are ok too. We rode out to the event but passed on going in. Looked kinda lame. Did try the poker run, took us on some beautiful roads, I think it was 10 bucks to do. Lated about 2 hours.
this year there is a ton of us going up, I think like 50 people, all with campers and/or renting cabins. Staying at artiallry ridge campground. Only about 3 hours away from me so something to do I guess. Great riding and scenery but the event LAME
