I am trying to put together a ride for some friends. I have never visited Pennsylvania and I'm attempting to plat a route across the state from Harrisburg to Pittsburgh. We have alot of Mountains here in north Alabama so I was looking for a change. I have heard its nice to ride through the valleys and farmlands there but I don't know what the best route west would be. We'll be coming in from the south on I 81 from Roanoke Va. I have that part of trip loosely planned. Just stuck in PA. Any help would be appreciated!

Run Rt 30 ( Lincoln Hwy ) all the way to Pittsburgh . Lots to see on the way . Between Chambersburg and Breezewood stop at Mountain View Bar ( Biker Bar ) great food , eat out on there deck and over look the mountains. Bedford Pa is where I live , lots to see such as Covered Bridges . Old Bedford Village. Rt 30 runs right through town. Lots of other sites between Bedford and Pittsburgh

I agree 30 from Getttysburg to Pittsburg is a real nice ride.
Another ride I like a lot is 322 to 15 north of the hershey area to Penn State. I then jump on 80 heading west. There is not much traffic on this route and at places on 80 west of peen state, I fell like i am overlooking so much country, I really like that ride. I would then continue on 220, or 99 South to bedford to pick up 30. Or another option at that point would be to jump on 22 west to pittsburg.

Rt 6 has very nice scenery but it is at the northern part of the state. You could take 15 north out of Harrisburg and get on 6 then go west. http://www.paroute6.com/

If you have time to go further north before heading west, and then south again, a couple of the nicest rides in the whole state are 6, or 120. Never been across 30, so I won't give you an opinion. If a few guys here say 30's a good one, I'd do it. Just depends on how much extra time you wanna take, to go a little further north.
