Default North Hampton, NH- More Another Attempt at Loud Pipes Enforcement

From WMUR-News
Town Considers Ordinance To Hush Motorcycles
Ordinance Would Regulate Motorcycle Noise

POSTED: 12:17 pm EDT May 9, 2010
UPDATED: 12:21 pm EDT May 9, 2010

NORTH HAMPTON, N.H. -- Now that New Hampshire's Legislature has killed a bill to muzzle noisy motorcycles, the town of North Hampton may take matters into its own hands.

Voters are being asked to pass an ordinance requiring permanent stickers on post-1982 motorcycle exhausts indicating they meet federal environmental standards. The article, aimed at regulating motorcycle noise, was brought to the town by petition.

First-time offenders could be fined up to $500 and subsequent violations would bring fines of $500 to $1,000.

The issue has also come up in neighboring Maine.

Earlier this year, a bill to cut back on motorcycle noise was modified to require that inspection stickers be displayed as of 2012.

The town can try it but it will be tossed out in court.
I have a State inspection sticker on my bike so go away.

Well, expect some of the state standards to increase as you guys rev your bikes at stoplights, burn down the residential streets and generally show off in front of the cameras that EVERYBODY now has in their hands. All it takes is a few ticked off to start filming; it would be easy to put together a little documentary of loud bikes.
My pipes aren't real quiet, but I know when and where to play. Far too many of you don't, or stupidly don't care. This is a real threat; just because you aren't mandated now doesn't mean this will remain.
My neighbors wave at me with ALL their fingers.
End rant.

Quadancer,

I don't know how much time you've spent (if any) on the NH secoast but the Harley crowd that ride the Hampton/Rye area aren't doing the things you speak of for the most part.

Secondly, New Hampshire is up to their eyeballs in Subaru-driving crybabies (that relocated from MA) that whine about every little thing and that includes Harley riders.

Riding in NH is huge. The riders were cruising the seacoast before whiners came up there and the riders will stand up for the biker rights. We also spend lots of MONEY there, too at the local businesses. Go to the MA Motorcycle Association's website to see how seriously we take our riding and rider's rights up here.

The voters passed the ordinance 2 to 1.

Today the Chief of Police came out against it.

Seacoast HD is my dealer for service and parts. I ride the area several times a week and never have noticed a problem with noise. But to put the issue in prospective, right behind the dealership is Hampton Airport. it's been there forever. People moved in and built homes that were big money. Now the noise of the airport is an issue. The state told them "Too bad. They were there first". Now this is a grass strip with Cubs and a Stearman as the normal traffic.

So you can guess why these people push these issues.

They don't have to create a bill! Harley is doing it for them!
