Planning on leaving Columbus, Ohio next week to PA. I have about 3 days and would like to know where some of the best riding in Pennsylvania would be.

Thanks

Default Pa Riding

I just finished a 1200 mile trip across Route 6 and back. I must say that I was a bit dissapointed with Route 6 given what I had heard about it. I guess it depends upon what you're looking for in the ride. Route 6 is scenic but the "Grand Canyon" is way over rated. It has the sights and the touristy stuff but as far as great riding it left me wanting. We went from east to west and decided not to return the same way for the above reasons. Our starting point to head back east was in St. Mary's PA and we took Route 120 to 973 to 87 back into Scranton and I must say that Route 120 (recommended by a forum member here) was one of the top rides I've had in the east coast, close to the level of a Skyline Drive/BRP run which is my #1 in the Mid Atlantic area. While not going along the mountain tops like the SD/BRP it winds it's way along the western branch of the Susquehanna (sp?) River with the mountains (OK, big hills for you westerners) rising steeply on each side. Very scenic with lots of sweepers and some twisties, I highly recommend the ride.

Try travelling alongside the Delaware River. Personally its one of my favorite rides as I live in NYC.
Travelling north Rt 32 from Washingtons crossing is nice then to 611 to 1004(Martins creek belvidere highway) to river road........back to 611....back onto river road...to 209 to rt 6 in matamoras. Then you can cross into NY and follow the river all the way to Hancock Ny. From there you can pick your way to rt 6 and back home.
When I ride I'm usually winging it as you can tell...but you find the nicest unknown spots that way. When I'm heading north or south following the river I take any road that I think will take me alongside it...after all....you always know where you are when you have the river alongside you. Lots of cool towns, small scenic bridges to cross over and nice scenic spots to stop at...especially the Hawks Nest off of 97 in NY that you may have seen on a car commercial or two.
You could probly use the same tactics for the Susquahanna river if you don't want to travel that far east. I've never done it....but it's only a matter of time till I do!!
Good luck

Riding along the Susqhehanna is a great ride. We live in Lancaster County and many times will ride from Columbia down into Maryland and back up the western side of the river. Many great rodes and towns along the way.

Rode Route 6 last month East to West with by brother.

Great scenery and a good roads. Picked up a route guide from AAA and it had several scenic motorcycle loops marked and they were good rides too.

Didn't do the PA Grand Canyon.

Rode from CT and back (about 1300 miles) .

Enjoyed it and we will probably go back again with our wives.
