woodchuck, I looked at that route, thats the one I am taking.

I'm coming from NC, so it's I-95 (yeah, I know) until richmond, then 295>64>81. Then I'm gonna hit 80>209>84>toconic pkwy then to the mass pike 90.

Should be a great ride, weather permitting.

thanks for the recommendation, I kinda wanted to stay away from wilkes-barre and scranton, that'll do it.

There are more direct routes but, except for I-80, this way isn't as busy or stressful. Rte 209 can be a bottleneck around East Stroudsburg on Friday and Sunday afternoons but nothing too severe. Be on the lookout for deer on the Taconic.

If you take the Taconic, there's a locals' shortcut that will bypass one toll on I-90 and is another short break from the four lanes. In Spencertown, take Rte 203 east to Austerlitz and then Rte 22 north (left turn) to I-90.

If you have the time, stay on 22 north instead of getting on I-90. Rte 22 is a two lane and the road surface gets MUCH better than the section between Austerlitz and I-90. There are only a couple of small towns to slow you down and there's a lot of passing zones in the country and I have never seen a LEO on that route. Take Rte 22 up to Rte 2 East. Rte 2 between North Adams and Greenfield, Ma is the Mohawk Trail. It has a number of good vistas and has a lot of good twisty sections. Pick up I-91 Norh in Greenfield (3/4 of the way around the traffic circle).

Rte 22 to 2 would take maybe 30 to 45 minutes longer than the Mass pike and I-91 but it's a much better ride. I take the Mass pike only if the weather is lousy.

great, thanks. I may be headed to Agawam first (s of springfield) to hang with an old army buddy for a day. Then off to framingham. I talked to my bud, and I think we are headed to laconia thurs or friday. We have some road trips planned, the cape, the quabbin etc, until we go to NH.

Should be a great (wicked)as they say...time. I guess I hafta find myMA accent again
