Calling on the PA guys and gal's for help
Ok planning a trip with my dad from basically columbus ohio to York Pa.
We will leave on a Thursday morning early with the plan of getting to York by sun set. Once there we will meet up with some friends of my dad and then tour the plant on Friday and ride friday and sat around the area with my dads buddies that work up at the plant. Then we will head home Sunday morning at sunrise with the intention of being back home by monday night at dark.
Ok i don't like to plan to much but with vacation schedules and all you know how it is.
What iam looking for is info on good roads and places we would want to see along are trip to york.
I don't want to run the main roads like 70 straight across the state etc. I perfer to run a road that has a little scenery and is not a straight line. So fill me in on the best route from western boarder of pa to york and then a possibly different route back like going north from york and coming back across the north part of the state.
PA is no helmet law correct if i remember

Ok Skully,
When we go we always go out 422 to 22 to 22 and 322 very good riding, when you get to Harrisburgh we run around to rt. 74 into York... 422 is good road and good senery, so are most of the other roads.... Yes there is no helmet law....

Rt 30 wouldn't be a bad days ride to York, I woukld say less traffic than 422. Great senery on 30 ,lots of mountains to climb. After passing through Breezewood, Pa and right before you get to Chambersburg there is a great biker bar right on top of the mountain on the right ,has great food with a senic overlook. You would be riding through my home town of Bedford. You might even want to make a quick stop at the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville Pa. Only about 6 miles off of Rt 30. From Bedford to Chambersburg is about 2 hrs and then about another hour to York. Somewhere in the neiborhood of 2 hours from Pittsburgh to Bedford. So very easy days ride, even with some time to stop a couple places. Plenty of places to gas up along the way. If you would ever get down this way and have any bike trouble, and lets hope you don't, I am usually always around and could help you out with tools or a tow.Just ask for Dave (814) 839-2436

I live in Irwin, Pa. 15 miles S.E. of the "Burg", just off Rt. 30. I have made two trips out east to York & Gettysburg.
Mostly all two lane. Very nice scenic route to take. I would highly recomend. Just my two cents.
Have a safe and enjoyable ride what ever route ya all take...

Clap has you right on the money although I might try a different route from Pittsburgh area till you get east say to Somerset which is my hometown. Possibly dropping down to rt 40 around Washington Pa and running that over toward the Yougiogheny, once you cross the Yough, 281 North into Somerset then pick 30 back up. Some pretty nice riding thru there.
