Default (MA/SoNH) First timer looking for help with Bars

Hello New England, I just got a 2007 RK and would like to swap the stock bars for 12-13" apes. I know that I could take it to a shop or the steelership, but I would really like to wrench on my own bike. I have done small things here and there on the RK and my little sporty, but bars seem kinda scary for me as a first timer.

I am looking for an experienced New England wrencher to help with my first bar swap. I live in Tewksbury but I have no problem getting around the Merrimack Valley area.

Thanks, Bruno

Are you internally wiring the bars? Did you already purchase all the components?

Hey Dawg. I have not purchased anything yet. Not quite sure all what I need to buy. I've read that with 12" bars you can get by with stock cables but may need longer ones.

Not too concerned with internally wiring to be honest. Zip ties will do just fine for the "rough around the edges" look I'm going for.

I was looking for used bars, no need to spend big dollars on my first of hopefully many upgrades.

Thanks for the reply

http://www.hillcountrycustomcycles.c...013-P2026.aspx For $500 you get a complete kit. It is a good deal. I've installed a couple of these kits for buddies. You will need new cables regardless of whether you go with a kit or buy used bars.

So it seems like I got the bars pretty much handled. Now I just need to find someone that knows how to install them and wouldn't mind throwin' a few beers back while helping me.

What did you decide on for bars? I'd help, but I'm a bit further out.
