Thinking about taking a job out there. Any good riding areas? What's it like around there?

Default geat riding

you will be right in between the catskill, adiorndack, and berkshire mountains.just pick a direction and let your handle bars do the rest.
one of the best rides is route 8 north out of utica.or head towards lake george and take 9 north.

Now for the bad news it is in the middle of the new york snow belt.

Like anywhere else, there's good areas/bad areas, good/bad school systems etc. Housing is pretty reasonable (especially with the low interest rates now). Different suburbs and small towns just outside the city, pick any size you want. Onieda lake hosts a Pro Bas Tournament and there's walleye, perch, etc. Pick most sports or outdoor activities and there's quite a bit to choose from. Syracuse University is basically the big dog in town for sports, althought here's a AAA baseball team that has it's own stadium. Lake Ontario is a short distance away. If you have a signifigant other who likes to shop, there are a bunch of different malls, stores, etc. Route 3 along the Seaway trail up to the Alex Bay St.Lawrence River/Ogdensberg ride is a decent one. Adirondack Mountains are not too far away either for nice riding. Syracuse is basically right in the middle of the state so everything is not that bad of a haul if there's some place you want to go. Is the job you are thinking about in the city itself, or right outside of it?

The job is in Stanley west of the city. Trying to live somewhere in between the two. Which lake is the best to be around as far as living and things to do. I live in central Mass now. Going to take a ride out there in a week or two. I know people say there is a lot of snow but have lived in the northeast most of my life.

Not sure yet. I have a chance to take a job within my company out in NY. We will see what happens over the the next couple of months. I still have one son in high school so even if I take the job I'm not going to move for a year or two.

Stanley is somewhat southwest of the snowbelt. You won't get the kind of snow we get. Your actually closer to Rochester. The Fingerlake area has alot of beautiful roads. Did a ride there about a month ago.
