Default Exhaust Tape cracking pipes

So I installed SE exhaust tape, approaching summer little extra Heat prevention around my leg..

Then read the posts about cracking pipes

Promptly Contacted Bassani and they said to "...REMOVE the exhaust tape 😡..."

My question was answered swiftly , No good, will crack the pipe....

If one has ever wrapped a chrome pipe and then unwrapped it later you would see it does do damage to the pipes. Personally I'd never wrap mine with it unless they were already tore up and just wanted a cleaner look until I got new pipes. If ya want cooler running pipes then jet hot coat them. Or ceremic coat them
Much easier on the eyes and pipes.

On a race car I have, the one time I warped the pipes it caused water to be trapped from the heating and cooling cycles. After a few years, I unwrapped them to do some repair when I found that about 1/2 the OD wall thickness was gone because of the pipe rusting and flaking. After that I went unwrapped with a ceramic coating with no problems.

Wrapping the pipe does not allow the tubing to radiate heat, it holds it in the pipe. This subjects the exhaust system to extreme heat which essentially tortures the material and leads to embrittlement. In many cases this can cause cracks and failures, it all depends on the heat/loads the exhaust was subjected to. I have seen cases where we removed a wrapped exhaust and the only thing holding it together was the wrapping.

Didn't realize wrapping pipes could cause metal to become brittle from excess heat.Learn something new on the forum every day.

My son wrapped his sportster pipes which were perfectly fine. A month later they are cracked really bad.

Wrapping pipes has been around the hot rod community for decades. I would never do it. It ruins pipes and headers over the years, they dont look all that great, and benefits are minimal. And yes, they will turn ugly over time

I have my hot rod headers and my MC header pipes CERAMIC coated. Its the only way to go. The surface temps are reduced drastically. Be aware, many Powder Coaters and ceramic coaters will not coat used pipes. Many colors avaialble in Ceramics

That is why you do do wrap pipes. The heat will destroy them. It is very common. Wrapping pipes is for drag race whey you expect to mess **** up just to gain a little more.
