Thought This Should Not Happen
I was 250 miles from home, in the middle of the desert, 60 miles from a town when I felt something bouncing around my left ankle. The shifter shaft fell off, even with the bolt still install and tight.
Stopped at the next gas station, removed the bolt and slid it back and tightened it down. Is still loose and can be pulled off. The splines are not worn out. I think I'll zip tie it as a safety measures so I don't loose the whole shifter on my way home.

Good idea I think I will do that but may use either red loctite or a nyloc nut

Worst is cleaning the threads later of the residue unless you replace everything.
Nylon loc nut or blue and check it with each oil change.
