There is an oil and lubrication section in this forum.
Bottom line ANY quality, name brand 20/50 oil.
I use conventional oils and change by 3000 miles. Right now Harley 360 but Valvoline is a top contender. Harley and Valvoline oils produce fine wear numbers against some of the most expensive oils. So much so your splitting hairs on which one is "better"

Other great oils, syn or conventional Valvoline VR1 or their motorcycle oils, Mobile 1, Castrol and without question all Amsoil products, even though I don't use them, I give Amsoil a lot of credit for a fine product with real product testing comparing them against all the others.

I prefer conventional because I change oil a couple times a year and the wear numbers of the oils I mention are just as good and sometimes better then syn. Amsoil again, is a standout.
I still use Primary + in the trans and primary.

Well, just to be different in this thread, I'll just tell ya what I use. Harley Syn3 in all three holes. I change it once a year. I've never had a problem in 15 years of using it.

I'm not of the opinion that the MoCo is out to get us, is incompetent or ruin our engines just to create out of warranty work. That's what they put in their most expensive bikes (CVO's), so that's what I use.

Another vote for just keep it changed. My 95 Ultra I put 168k miles on with Castrol GTX 20w50 dino oil changed at 2500 miles. never anything but tune ups. My twin cams have all had synthetic, usually syn 3 with formula + in primary and mobil 1 synthetic gear oil in tranny.

My recommendation on what oil to use? The slippery kind works best I have found.

Yep, just stay on top of your changes and be sure to use the right service rated oil.

I suppose you have some scientific evidence that HD branded oil is crap? How do you know it's not Mobil 1, or an even better oil, rebranded??

Please post any proof you have of that?

Default My 00.2......

I think when we are changing oil so often anyways a good quality will do the job well.

I have now done my 1,000 mile fluid change and will be running:

Valvoline 20w/50 MC - Conventional in the engine compartment ( I think a good conventional is better for the valve train and produce's very steady oil pressure, with less valve train noise) Engine sounds real good with this oil.

Mobil 1 LS - 75w/145 - Synthetic - In the gear box (Always been stuck on
Mobil 1 when it comes to the gear box)

Harley Trans/Primary Fluid - In the primary (Like I stated above)

I think picking what you want to run, put it in, run it and stick with it.

Call it superstitious if you want, but I don't believe in mixing oils - JMO.....
