Default Sturgis 2009

ok, since nobody else has done it, I am going to start a thread. Me and a few friends are going for the first time this summer. Just a few questions-
Are you going?
Where are you going from?
Where are you staying and why?
Pros and cons of different places you have stayed in the past?
Stuff I should not miss. Best rides. Best shows. Best bars.. etc.

this is the at LEAST the third thread with the same title.
Do a search, there are two "sturgis 2009"
and one "sturgis 2009?"
plus some others. I'm sure as winter sets in even harder, and longer, we'll long for trips to make this summer!!!

Going this summer for the first time in a very long time. I have lodging in Hill City (wanted to be sure I could get some sleep). I also want to enjoy the ride through the Black Hills to Sturgis. Question: Do they charge to enter Sturgis or park on Main street? Are there other options for parking? I was going to go the first day as the Sturgis stats indicate that the crowds are lighter and build through the week.

No charge to get into Sturgis or downtown, plenty of free parking downtown on side streets, and on Main if you can find a spot. Attendance usually peeks on Tuesday and then fads as the week rolls on.

I'm going for the first time. Right now, it's only me and my GF going. Like last year, everybody is already backing out. I am leaving Central Texas and plan to head to NM and up through CO. Definitely not the most direct route, but the most senic. I'm leaving on the 30th after working at the EAA Airventure in Oshkosh....

Well, it looks like my plans are screwed up. I just found out today that I will be in Oshkosh for the duration of the show. That means I probably won't be leaving there until Sunday afternoon or Monday morning. That will put me in Sturgis on Thursday at the earliest.... The only thing I really had planned was seeing Aerosmith...but that's not going to happen...
