Default Any machinists here? Questions.

I've got 3 sets of Fowler radius gages that I've had laying around for a while and figured I'd get rid of them. My father is a machinist but about to retire, so he's not interested in them and his company has gotten rid of their tooling department pretty much. Apparently that's where these are mainly used? I did some research on these by kit number, and holy crap, I didn't realize how expensive these are apparently? The small kit, 52-470-040 is over $300, the medium sized kit, 52-470-045 is like $900, and the large kit, 52-470-050 is $1300? Those prices seems absolutely ridiculous to me, that's why I'm posting here to see someone familiar with them could give me a market price.

Obviously this isn't the classifieds, but we don't really have a general or tool section there, so if a mod has an issue with this being here, I apologize.

If you want to sell them try ebay, that will show what the market will bear. Good luck getting top dollar.

I think only toolmakers with no( CMM or comparator )measuring equipment would use those.

Most modern machine shops are making parts on CNC's and have the latest measuring equipment.

I did find the $1300 one for $877.

I was going to try eBay but wanted to get some idea on ballpark price first. I don't want to give them away, but I don't want to set an unrealistic reserve price either. I actually haven't sold anything on eBay in years, how long can you run an auction for now?

You may want to do your research on Ebay and other machinist oriented sites. with the influx of cheap imported tools you may find the going prices somewhat depressing. Good luck honestly.

I had a few high end items on a web list for several years before a taker came along.

The only other used radius gages I found on eBay were substantially smaller than these and nowhere near mine in retail. But I don't know if one size group is more desirable than others or what.

With most all "modern" shops using CNC, the old layout and check methods have been relegated to the hobbyists. With that said they are still useful for reverse engineering!
One of the -040 kits sold on ebay for $24.50 + 10 shipping.
Not many people know what to do with these gages anymore!

My Starrett radius gauges haven't been out of the case for a couple of decades now. Used to use them for inspection and layout work, but with Cad/Cam and all the hi tech optical equipment, pretty much useless anymore. Some hobby freak might have a good use for them.
