RE: 1997 Heritage Springer (red on White) sleeper
why no bites on this 1997 one ower heritage springer?
Is it still to far from spring?
if I can figure out who to safely use E-bay I've got many other Harley parts and related things to see.
Some serious spring cleaning going on at my place.

RE: 1997 Heritage Springer (red on White) sleeper
Hi Sallyann,
To answer your question; "Why the spring cleaning???"
The short answer is I'm just plain out of room.
But to be honest, there are many facets to the answer.
I haven't had a spring clean or a clean in any other season for that mater, in decades.
Also I find that I ride my '03 Ultra much more than my '97 Heritage Springer. So, as much as I like having the option of choice, there is a cost (maintainance, Insurance and Registration) that I have chosen to eliminate as well. Last year January I had to maintain, insure and register 2 harleys, a dump/plow truck, a Tahoe, 2 Saabs, a '43 ford 9N tractor, an enclosed 6X12 trailer, a 3 rail open bike trailer and a camper. I have decided that I am wasteing some and maybe to much of my resources. My plan is to complete the cut back while updateing. 1 harley, 1 4X4 with plow, 1 Saab, I trailer and 1 camper. This should cut the maintainance, insurance and registration annual costs by at least $2000.00. anyway, in a nutshell I guess it's safe to say that down sizing the rough plan. Some of this plan has been carried out all ready, but still much to do.
Thanks for your question

RE: 1997 Heritage Springer (red on White) sleeper
Hi Hwgstr,
Thanks for noticing how beautiful my H S is.
I really hate to part with her, but I find that now a days I ride my '03 Ultra much more than the heritage springer. I am having a harder time justifing the expence of 2 Harleys as well as the choice of which one stays in the stable. Although a tough choice the Ultra has won. The miles, joys and fun that I had on my springer will take the rest of my life to explain. There are some other personal reasons to downsize number of my toys, but, I really don't want to make those known on a public forum. If you are interested in the bike and think that more information in that area will help you to decide, e-mail me your phone number and the best time to call you, and I will.
She had 35k on the original 80" EVO motor. She had no problem, except that I wanted more get-up-and -go pep (as always) to pass a truck or a train. I also enjoy leaving others scratching their head in wonder as I keep up and or leave them in the mirror. Got to love a sleeper !! Just as always, rather than just dipping my foot into the water, I jump in conpletely. As the list info (above, 1st post) shows there are lots of parts go with her. If your an e-bay user, the extra parts alone are worth pleanty. But I must admit dressing her up or dressing her down is part of the fun. The bored and stroked motor was professionally built as an 89 ci and now has about 22k on that build. The build was not a result or because of any problem, the EVO 80" was very strong. But now she's very very strong. I'm not a "ride main street" kind of guy. I've rode her across the country (USA and Canada), east west- west east, north south, south north and every other which way. I have always maintained her to perfection, I'm the only owner, I bought her new in Burlington, VT. She is my 4th Harley and the 3rd Harley that I've bought new. Other than while I was on a road trip, she's always been stabled in the garage. Right now she looks and rides like new and frankly, I'll miss her more than any bike I've ever owned.
If you are interested in the bike only without any of the parts, I'll knock $1000.00 off the price and still offer to deliver within 1000 miles within the US from Claremont, NH 03743.
My Ultra had a face lift and also the Stroker 103" done on her this winter. She was broke in while I was in Florida during bike week 2006. What a difference!!
As I've said before, "Got to love a sleeper."
If I wasn't completely pleased with the Stroker build on my springer, I would not have stroked the Ultra.
Stroker is the only way to go.
Hope this helped answer your question.

RE: 1997 Heritage Springer (red on White) sleeper
Chappy,
Sorry to hear you are needing to sell your Springer. IMHO, it's the best looking bike HD ever produced.
As far as selling on eBay, the best suggestion I can give on a transaction of this size is to insist on using an escrow service. It will cost a little bit of money, but it is the best way to make sure you don't get ripped off. The escrow service will not release the bike to the buyer until the funds can be verified. Likewise, the finds will not be released to you until the buyer is satisfied that the bike was accurately represented. You might even be able to get the buyer to split the escrow fees with you, since he is being protected as well as yourself.
Shipping costs is a whole nuther matter. It can cost several hundred dollars to ship a bike across the country. I would just make it clear in the listing that the buyer pays all shipping costs, and don't even accept bids from overseas. Not worth the hassle.
Good luck with the sale and keep the shiny side up!

Hi Elwood51,
Thanks for your advise.
I will certainly look into the escrow, seems like the wat to go.
I am still pondering the whole e-bay thing,
I'm a bit timid when it comes to e-bay transactions.
I've been waiting for warmer weather to advertize locally, and wouldn't you know it, It's snowing again. Hopefully this is it.
Thanks again
