Default Geico Really Sucks at Paying Claims!

Long story short, a week ago this past Sunday a gal hit my rear end at a gas station. Smashed my rear fender into the tire to the extent that I needed 2 pry bars to pull it out enough to roll the bike.

Fortunately nobody was hurt ... I wasn't on the bike. And get this ... she wasn't in her car! She said it must have came out of "park". When I look inside I had to comment that not only did it come out of park, but it past thru Reverse, Neutral, and then into Drive? How do you even get out of a car with an auto trans that's in Drive?

The parts that need to be replaced are front & rear fenders, tombstone taillight, right mirror, right floorboard, fishtail exhaust, heat shield, engine guard & brake lever.

The D-Bag adjuster tried to pay me off with a $1900 check for parts & labor. He says the repairs will require 2.7 hours labor. I called him back advising him that 3 different H-D service centers estimate 8 to 10 hours labor. The idiot advised me that H-D is referring to "Street Time", WTF?

I just lost it with him at that point and told him to add another $1k to the claim or it's going to get a lot more a expensive! If they don't treat me fair I'll just turn it over to my insurance (AAA) and have it towed to a dealer for their evaluation. Gotta love it, H-D charges 3 hours labor for their inspection and this D-Bag adjuster thinks it's 2.7 hours to make all repairs

Insurance is required to make you whole. If adjuster thinks that is the value then he should direct you in the direction of the shop that would accept such a payment. Amount would seem rather low if it includes labor. Adjuster might have been testing the waters since that is their job. I would avoid using my own insurance if possible.

Glad you weren't on it!

Agree with you 100% about GEICO. They suck big time...used to be good, now they seem like they will do anything to avoid/delay paying. I am in the middle of an over year-long fight with them...pending court date, so cannot say much more...other than GEICO SUCKS and insurance is not just about the best premium, but also about how well they pay out when needed.

It would be pretty close if the shop ordered a prepainted fender from Harley and just R&R'd the bent parts. I've only been in a few Harley shops around the country, but I've never seen one with a paint booth. Just sayin...

Is that a 1997 Heritage Springer?

Looks like you need a new fender...

You can be sure I won't accept that offer.

Yeah, I hear you on using my insurance. That would be a last resort. Even if he knew of some hack-shop that would do the work at that price, I don't have to use them. I have the right to have the work done at the shop of my choice. I realize saving money for Geico is his job and that's fine. If he didn't offer such an absurd low-ball, I wouldn't be as annoyed. But he's trying to hold his ground on $1900 damage and I just got a call from Harley tonight with a $3200 quote.

I'll be wishing you the best on that.

The big problem is that the pre-painted tins for this limited production 1997 bike are way obsolete today. As are the decals under the clear coat. Which in reality translates into "diminished value" of the bike. Sure a fender can be painted to look like the original, but the difference will be visual.

I never considered GEICO after I found out they were handing out radar units to the cops.

What a racket. Raise the rates for speeding tickets and hand out radar units so there will be more speeding tickets.
