Default USAA vs other companies

Recently USAA (who we have used for 20 years) stopped insuring bikes. Bikes already insured with them are grandfathered in but anything new you get they point you to Progressive.

As a result my wife and I have three bikes insured with USAA and my new Rocker C is with Progressive. Since Progressive goves a multiple vehicle discount we are considering moving all the bikes (and other vehicles) over to them. Since we will be changing companies we figured we might as well shop around and see what else is out there.

Additionally, USAA is not playing nice on a claim involving my son's car, so we are pretty disappointed with them right now.

So... I am new to these forums and will be trying to catch up on all the great info here. Anyone have any companies they want to warn against or think I should look at?

Thanks

Jake

Had progressive for 4 years in SC. No claims or tickets and they raised my rates $80.00 per yr.. Get a quote from Gieco before you go with progressive.

I've had Safeco for the last 3 years and each time I price check the others (Geico and Progressive), they can't match it.

USAA ROCKS! I got grandfatherd in 2 months before they stopped accepting motorcycles. Great people to call and super low rates. When I wrecked my bike the cut me a check in two weeks and covered every posible thing. I have all my eggs in one basket. They cover my vehicles my house the morgage and my credit cards. And great rates to boot.

When did USAA stop insuring bikes? I've got both of mine and I bought my Night Train in early July and they didn't turn me away? Is it through Progressive?

Their bike insurance is now through Progressive unless you are grandfathered in.

@ Soft 02: We have used USAA for 20 some years, banking, credit cards, home and vehicle insurance, IRAs, you name it. Never had a problem with them until my son totaled his car a couple of months ago. Since it is a total they are playing hardball and are lowballing us on the worth of the vehicle. I had an appraiser look at it and he came up with over 5k more than USAA. The manager of the total department or whatever has blown me off for over three weeks, not returning any of the multiple calls or emails I have sent. Looks like we are going to have to go to court.

Seeing as we have used them for a couple of decades for so much, and have 6 vehicles and the house and my wifes appartment currently insured with them you would think returning a phone call would be something they would do...

They were great with a couple of hail damage claims and a fender bender, but now when we really needed them to step up they treat us like red headed step children. Not acceptable in my book, at all.

I had all of my vehicles (cars & bikes) as well as my house insured through USAA. I have never had a ticket or claim.....ever. They raised my rates with out reason. My home insurance went up $300 in one year and when I asked why, they made some poor attempt at blaming it on the economy. I was left with a negative impression about the whole company. I received poor customer service while trying to figure this thing out. They think just because they call you by your rank they are a military friendly company, but in the end they are just another "big comercial" company out for their best interests.

I moved all of my coverage over to 21st Century. They have a VFW program if you are a member. The rates were unbelievable and no one could even come close. In addition to the VFW program they have a multi-policy discount. All of my coverages are the same as when I was at USAA and at a fraction of the price.

I fall into the same boat as you with USAA because I sold my bike before a deployment and bought my harley when I got back. They naturally referred me to progressive which I took because I was standing in the dealer waiting to roll out. After I got home and did some research I say that Geico was about 200 cheaper per year for the same coverage. Now my harley is back under USAA because I'm stationed in germany so they should keep me covered when I get back to the states. USAA in my opinion is gone down in customer service over the last couple of years.

I haven't had any problem with USAA. I've had a few mishaps with the cars over the last 10 years and they were fair. I was referred to Progressive when i got the bike and I pay $300/year with a $500 ded. Never had to make a claim on a motorcycle...hope I never do.
