Default Insurance

This is one of those things that can go on forever.I have geico and they are considerably cheaper that progressive. One claim which was handled very quickly and no problems. Use to have American Family but they kept raising their rates for no reason. I had no tickets and no claims. So, I would go with the money savings. It is real easy to check policy costs on line. I do it every year and Geico comes out on top each time. Good luck.

I was using progressive for my 1976 KZ 900. Liability only. I have no tickets and that insurance was $435 a year. I just bought a new Fat Bob and full coverage with Geico was $370 for the Bob. Made no sense to me.

Before you make a decision based on web pricing, call them and find out why it is so expensive. I bet there is something not right with the web pricing. I got priced by Progressive and they wanted 1500, ended up calling them and talking and because I hadn't had a bike registered withing the last year, they labeled me as a new rider, when I've been licenses for 25 years. After that they lowered their price by over 500 bucks. So bottom line, give them a call and let them know they are not in the ballpark of other vendors and you want to know why.

I just got Progressive on my 2010 RK, full coverage, high liability limits and $500 ded on comp/coll. Premium is $499 per year. When I priced Geico, they were a bit more with minimum liability limits (15/30/5)

Can't figure out how they come to their pricing.

One of the reasons Geico may have been cheaper for me is that I have my home, a rent house, my truck, my wifes Jeep, and now the bike all with them. I'm sure I'm getting a multi-policy discount of some sort.

Had progressive through USAA on my previous bike (sportbike) and switched over to geico when I bought the fat boy. Even though the Fatboy cost just shy of twice what the old Suzuki cost, the insurance through geico costs half of what progressive cost. 550 per year vice 1150 per year with progressive. I know its apples and oranges since I got a new bike so the comparison isn't very scientific, I was amazed at how much cheaper Geico was. my $.02

Progressive sucks ***. They quoted me $1400 a year. I have better coverage with SafeCo for $278 a year. And a $250 deductible to boot. They were the highest quote I got when I was shopping for insurance.

For what it's worth, I got progressive through USAA also, found out yesterday they are tied in with Soros so I'm changing, Geico, Allstate, whatever, I'll pay more but I'm not supporting that group anymore.

I currently have State Farm. They only cover $4000 in extras, max! I think I may look into Riders. Automatic $8000 in extras coverage, plus towing and a good rate.

GEICO has been around a long time, founded in 1936 and at one time provided only insurance to government employees (Government Employees Insurance Company). They are the 4th largest insurer in the country and while I have never had a claim, their service is top notch, their people speak english and are in my experience far smarter than most people I speak to on the telephone and they have an outstanding interactive website.

I have a 2004 Softail they insure for $30k, a 2008 FHLX they insure for $35k a FXSTD they cover for $10K and a 1994 Sportster they provide PL/PD on. All my bikes live in my garage at night. I am 44, a former Motorcycle Safety Foundation grad / instructor and have a squeaky clean driving record. All my bikes are covered for $800 a year.

I GEICO and Progressive at the two at the time I got my custom Softail and for similar coverage Progressive as quite a bit more maybe because of the add ons, whatever the difference they wouldn't insure the bike for declared value and GEICO did. I was sold on GEICO when they were accused of "discriminating" against bad drivers in bad neighborhoods. Go figure.
