Your house is paid for and you're complaining about insurance premiums on your bike? I hate you.

J/K!!!

Oh, and you think this situation is bad? Wait until you have an accident(& I hope you never do) and the section of town where you're located, no one will send a wrecker to you. That happened to me in 2003 in Little Five Points area of metropolitan Atlanta @ 1 a.m. on way home from work. My insurance carrier said they would send someone out but it would require a cash payment of $100 which they would reimburse. I told her an ATM was across the street from me but if I walked over there and some of the crackheads in the area saw me, I doubt I'd make it back across the street with the cash.

Yep! Grew up on Chicago's southside and lived there for the first few years after marriage. Moved out to the burbs and my insurance premiums for everything (house, car, bike) dropped like a rock.

No secret what was driving the rates up, but probably not politically correct to state the exact cause.

Find an Independent Insurance Agent and have a long talk with 'em. You may have to switch all your insurance needs to get a better deal. I did that a couple of months ago and saved $750.00 per year with better coverage on house, cars and bike.

I wouldn't give up on the idea of getting a lower rate. Just because 1, 3, or a dozen companies give you a high estimate doesn't mean that there is an agent/company out there willing and able to give ya a better deal. Make take some leg work, maybe a lot of leg work but it can be done. Many years ago upon moving back to the states, I had a VW Scirocco. Every insurance co. said it was a high powered sports car. Hell, it didn,t even have 100 hp. Eventually I found one that would cover me with good coverage at a reasonable rate. Don't give up!
