I just got a quote from Progressive. I haven't shopped around. My first bike, 27yrs old. Good record. They said $508 for full coverage/theft etc..

I guess I'll shop around some more.

Default up . up ..

I went from a 04 883 sportster at $ 200. a year to insure with a side of the road company ,
Sold sportster and bought a new 07 Low Rider , ins, wanted over $500. a year so I checked around and Progresive was less .
Rate was $265 full coverage and low deductables .
Now I bought a new Strret Glide to replace the Low Rider .
New coverage 2 weeks ago was up to $375. a year , so hhhmmm ok.
THEN in the mail comes a new 09/10 policy for the FLHX up again same covrage now cost
$475. WTF ???
Had my rep call around .
American Modern ins, would cost abought $ 350. HHMM,,
Anyone delt with American Modern Ins ???

Progressive beat Esurance to a bloody pulp with me. Esurance was OUTRAGEOUSLY high for a plan comparable to my progressive plan.

I'm looking to get a new 2009 Nightster so I started calling insurance companies for quotes. I have my home and car insured with AllState and the following were the numbers they threw out:

AllState: $400/year
Geico: $646/year
Travelers: No Motorcycle Insurance
Esurance: No on road motorcycle insurance in NC
Progressive: $305/year

I am in IL also and my rates went up this year. It was $340/yr last yr, and went up to $399. I switched to Liberty Mutual, $189/yr for full coverage!

Funny you should mention Liberty Mutual. Been a loyal customer since 1988 on my auto. Never even looked at another company. Called them to insure my 1999 RK. Came back with $1600/yr. This is in west central Florida. Told them I'd shop around a little. Get my auto renewal for the year. Up another $100 from last year, so while I was shopping, I figured I'd look at auto quotes as well. I can save over $500 from Nationwide, Geico, State Farm, or Progressive on my auto with the same or better coverages than what Liberty Mutual is hitting me up for, and those same companies are all quoting around $500 for covering the bike with full coverage, including high limits, $500 deductibles, under/uninsured coverage, plus the little extras like road assistance and extra accessory coverage.

So for the total cost of what my auto insurance was costing me, I cover the car and bike. I called Liberty Mutual and told them my findings. Their answer: Well, you'll find lower rates than ours and higher rates than ours. Buy the insurance that you feel comfortable with...they could care less about loyalty.

I know I'm going to shop every time I get a renewal now.Just like going to the grocery store and buying groceries, buy what's on sale that week.

I just got a call from the collection agency last week telling me I owed money for a cancelled policy. I told him to talk to progressive. I called progressive and faxed a copy of insurance policies with other companies for the time period they say they covered me for. They said sorry no bill now. If I could only explain this to the collection guy.

I've found Nationwide to be amazing... I don't carry full coverage, but I carry a lot of Medical. $167.oo year (o7 sporty). As far as your rates... it has mostly to do with zip code and your credit score. Also, if you have passed a certified bike riders test, is the bike garaged...etc.
