Default price report

I got my renewal in the mail a few weeks ago from Formost. So I thought I'd compare w/ Dairyland before I sent my bucks.

Here's the summary. We've got two riders w/ three rides (06 Softail SE, 07 Ultra & 08 Deluxe). Full Coverage, 500 deduct, uninsured motorist, 100/300 BI, 50k property, $3500 equip + some bells/whistles. One speeding. Annual: $1,299.

Here's what Dairyland aka Sentry quoted for all the above except $5000 equip. I let her run a credit check, ours is steller. We qualified for their "Gold Plan" ie. the lowest possible price.
Dairyland annual premium: $2,048.00.

WTF !

Her explanation was the Uninsured Motorist was to blame. She quoted w/o UM & the price dropped to $787.00 annual. Thats a $1,261.00 UM premium or about the total Formost prem. I explained to her that TX just implemented Electronic Insurance Verification for LEO so if anything, UM should be more reasonable & that my Formost UM prem. is only $160.00.

I didn't argue with her, she's just the messenger.

safeco ins. through HD $563 a year. I'm only 23 no house or anything to bundle it with. State farm which I have my two vehicles and ATV through, wanted $1200 a year to insure with same coverage as safeco. reason= under 25 when I'm 25, I can put the bike on the state farm policy and get it for around $350 a year.

100/300 liab.
50,000 prop damage
5,000 med pay
250/250 deducts

Default never having to worry...priceless

This from an earlier posting.

BODILY INJURY & PROPERTY DAMAGE LIABILITY $72.00
BI $20,000 EACH PERSON - $40,000 EACH ACCIDENT
PROPERTY DAMAGE LIABILITY - $10,000 EACH ACCIDENT
UNINSURED/UNDERINSURED MOTORIST - NONSTACKED $35.00
$20,000 EACH PERSON/$40,000 EACH ACCIDENT
MEDICAL PAYMENTS $1,000 EACH PERSON $26.00
COMPREHENSIVE $1,000 DEDUCTIBLE $35.00
COLLISION $1,000 DEDUCTIBLE $106.00
ACCESSORY COVERAGE $3,000 INCL

I have:
third party liability limits for injury and property dmage of $5,000,000
$500 deductible for collision / comp / theft
medical - essentially unlimited

a lot of the posts seem to talk about the coverage for the bikes, not the damages that can be done with the bikes or the injuries that may result. The bike is a minor cost in the big picture. $10, $15, or $25,000 whatever it is worth, it has a finite dollar figure. Hurt someome, those injuries, court cases and related issues can last along time and cost a lot of money.

On the way to Sturgis, I woke up in a North Dakota emergency room one day . $1500 ambulance bill, $8500 overnight stay, not counting physio and rehab expenses. good feeling knowing I could wiggle my fingers and toes. great feeling not being concerned I might run out of insurance.

Living in the centre of Canada, sure I pay way more than you...About $2000 year for coverage. But not worrying about losing my house or astronomical medical expenses.......priceless!!

Many people have cheaper insurance but the coverage is what counts. My coverage through Progressive is $500,000 each person with passengers and $500,000 liability. This is huge. Many of these other companies offer cheaper rates but they give you half the coverage. Case in point is Geico or Statefarm with $300,000 as their max coverage
