Rental insurance?

I'm sure it would very greatly by the coverage you have on your own policy. In MN the required insurance minimums on a motorycycle are extremely minimal.
All you need is liability of 30/60 for personal injury and 10K for property damage. That's it. With those minimal limits, I could easily see a carrier not allowing coverate for any rental bikes.
On the other hand, if the operator has more realistic liability coverage, and comprehensive or collision, etc.... Then perhaps the carrier might be more inclined to cover rentals.

Oh, I think I hurt myself laughing. 30/60 is not extremely minimal. In Louisiana, required limits were fairly recently RAISED to 15/30 liability. (Louisiana required limits are beyond laughable, they are pathetically low.)

I had esurance on my last bike, and they specifically said that they DO cover rental motorcycles, just like your auto policy covers rented cars.
I have Progressive on my current bike, and asked them the same question -- disappointingly they said "no", no rental bike coverage.
So check with esurance, maybe they'd cover it in your state.
