This is most likely a stupid question. I was told by two guys with M8s do not let them idle on cold startup on the kickstand. Something about the oil will not lubricate the engine properly. Both of them was dead serious, bike must be setting up right. I have a 107 20 Sport Glide with 29,000 trouble free miles .I'm in MI, I have always let it warm up on the kickstand, no problems.
So was the 2 guys just paranoid??.
They were probably confused with the undocumented tech tip that is explained in the video below. The scavenging on the M8's when on the Jiffy Stand does not work very well, but it will not damage the bike. It Will affect the oil level in the tank.
Short video with some good tips in it from a Harley Mechanic/Store Manager.
Oh crap, my bike is toast. If I shut my bike off too soon, it's bad. If I let my bike idle too long it's bad. If I start it on the kick stand it's bad. Only check the oil on the kick stand, when hot.
Now I'm really confused. How do I check the air in my tires? On the kick stand or straight up? Hot or Cold? With a digital or manual gauge?
