Default S&s camplate failure

Hello friends, I recently purchased a complete big bore 132 kit with 550c cam. but I'm having problems with the camplate bushing. The motorcycle only traveled 200km and the cam bushing ovalized. I'm using all the s&s parts that came in the kit. valve springs, camplate, oil pump, lifters. I was unable to identify the reason why this happened and I would like help trying to resolve it so that it doesn't happen again. I measured de crank runout and was 0.003 mm . Now de crank ruout is 0.024 mm . My bike have 23000 km and i used 5000 With The original camplate , original Springs and wood cam 22xe With zero problems. I beliche The 550 cam was The problem because The first came is enormous and The Springs are too hard and they force exactly in this direction of The bushing. I think s&s have to review the quality of The bushing material for this cams . Bearings is The best way to run big cams. I probably Will adapt one rsrs

It sounds like you added the big bore, and with that more power that you apparently have been using because if your runout went from .003 to .024 your crank has scissored and that's what ate up the cam plate bushing. It has nothing to with anything that s&s has done or their parts. No I'm affiliated with s&s in any way lol...unfortunately your crank is going to have to come out and either fix that one or buy an aftermarket one. Doesn't matter what brand cam plate you put in there with that much runout it's going to get ruined too. Time for a crank up rebuild, your big bore parts should still be ok.
thanks Keith for fixing the font...no way i was trying to read that lol

thanks for the reply my friend ,

i know i have to do the crank rebuild for now . But i had 150hp in the stock motor and the wood cam 22xe and nitro . And i runned 5000 km with that and zero problems in the motor , or the camplate or the camshaft . Know i was with 150hp without nitro . I thought it wasn't expected know with the same 150hp. I saw Other cases like mine .

150HP, with or without nitrous is a lot of HP to apply to an OEM crank. JMHO but the crank should have been trued/balanced/plugged or welded before hitting it with 150HP. 5K km with that much HP surely stressed the OEM crank and then the OP added the big bore kit, et al, and the crank scissored. Nothing to do with the cam or cam plate; the crank scissored and took out the cam plate bushing. The OP is lucky there was not more damage.

0.024 mm is only about 0.001" Doesn't sound to bad to me.. If it was inches then, yeah, the crank shifted.

Were you running a SNS crank or stock? Stock with a 132 is asking for trouble.

Stock motor with 22XE is not problem.. If you were running the 22XE with the 132, then you simply pushed the crank over the edge..

Big cams run fine in bronze bushings. Going ball or needle in the cam plate is a waste of $$$$. Bronze handles shock loads better than ball/roller. and how does the cam bearing bend the crank?

I've run a 640 lift cam in a bike with single bronze bushing for 50000 miles.

I assumed .024 was inches since .003mm is .0001" which I doubt on a late OEM crank. However, Max is right that shifting from .003mm to .024mm is not evidence of a scissored crank. Maybe the OP can clear that up.

Thank for the reply my friend ,
my runout is measured in mm , i'm from brazil and here we use only metrical. My runout know is 0.024 mm thats 0.010 " + or - . For know i have dragrace in Day 15 of november and i need to race and don't have Time to do the crank rebuild in this moment . I reinstaled the oem camplate and the wood cam . I runned tomorrow 100 km and the camplate still fine . In service manual says the limit runout for oem camplate is 0.030mm . In my mind the original camplate is harder than s&s bushings . Reminding the s&s camplate failured 100% with 200km . Sorry if my english is not só clear 🙏 but your reeply is very important to me .
