If you have a battery tender, I would connect it and bring the battery up to fully charged. Then, if the bike still doesn't start, you would know its not the battery

The battery doesn’t have to be completely dead for the bike to not start.

Yeah, so I just came home after letting the battery sit on the tender all day. Before touching anything else, I started the bike again, and this time it started properly. So it was the battery, but now I'm wondering what I touched improperly that caused such a rapid overnight drain.

IMO, for every 10 mechanical problems you have, 1 will have a simple solution. Enjoy this one.

The fuel sender code happens when you have the tank disconnected and happen to turn the ignition on.

I'd still have the battery load tested to be sure that the overnight charge isn't temporary solution to a failing battery. Otherwise you may end up riding somewhere and leave it sitting for an hour or so only to find it won't start.

That's what I was thinking. I'll take the battery out and see what somebody else has to say. If the fuel sender code doesn't mean anything then I'm really at a loss, maybe a cable got pinched by the fuel tank breather valve hose moving around. I'll do some short rides first and keep an eye on the engine light.

FWIW, battery “tenders” are for keeping a FULLY charged battery FULLY charged NOT to be used for or expected to recharge a battery to FULLY charged state.
Fully charge your battery with a proper charger then take it to the auto parts store to be checked on a battery load tester. This very simple preventative procedure can save an unexpected dead battery out in the sticks.
Always want a fully charged battery and properly operating charging system because these new electronically (computer) controlled engine parameters and lighting and as well as some non-engine related controls, need a minimum 12v.

After some research and digging around, I think it is the battery cables. But while I'm in there, I'll replace it with a mega crank. Then I'll go have a mega crank myself.
