Don't have any comment on the piston wear or carbon; however, I would be stuffing some shop rags in the crankcase holes so a foreign object does not get into the crankcase.

If you look at the colour of the land between the first and second ring it looks like poor ring seal, which could be the reason for excessive oil in the breathers.

CoolBreeze3646 - everything has been covered and closed up with plastic - appreciate that feedback!

Lonewolf; that's pretty interesting actually - you may have something there. I am going to get some better pictures in goo lighting and see if I can figure that out more.

I do have new oilers to install however, I will be checking the old ones out of curiosity. Probably check the new ones as well! I have a habit of replacing everything while I am 'in there'

I guess the consensus is that the my pistons tops/carbon are worse than the skirt wear!

The Moco had been warrantying these 114 motors that had these little holidays in the cylinder that cause a rough patch due to moisture getting trapped in the cylinders.

The wear would be normal if the piston clearance was tight.. That coating is designed to help keep the fit tight so the motor don't rattle when clearances are loose and wear down when the clearances are tight. You probably had bore on the small side of the tolerance and a piston on the large side.. It does look like the rings didn't seat all that well tho.. Poor cylinder finish or not a good break-in.
