I'm happy to announce that the girls are back together tonight. The Carolina Girl is very happy to have the CVO back home.
I was stunned when my phone rang this morning around 10:30am and Jeff at Smokin said "Come and get her". I thought he was screwing with me, but no she is ready to roll. The engine build, 45k service and safety inspection were all complete. That said I still have a light on the dash as the rear wheel TPMS sensor is on backorder until November.
We got over there this afternoon around 2pm and she looked good. Reviewed everything with Jeff and Eric and I road her 37 miles back home. The clock needs to be set and the shifter is way too high. I need to get a couple of these details squared away and do a little better job of cleaning up the chrome. It's a brand new engine so I'm going back through the 500 mile breakin procedure and will do a 1000 mile engine oil and filter change.
She sounds very good, ran fine coming home and feels strong.

That is good news. In 07, I bought a 6 year 72000 miles HD ESP. 3 compensator, 2 starters, compression release, ground strap, new fuel pump. It was worth it. 111000 miles later … Rode it to Smithfield yesterday just to show it some love… Almost forgot I had to put my feet down…Glad you got your baby back…considering everything that’s going on in the world. That was a fast turnaround.

Great news Cosmic and your dealer did a fairly quick repair. My 107-114 Stage 3 that let loose because of a stuck valve in the oil pump took almost 3 months to repair. It was interesting looking over the similarity in parts on your repair order and mine. Oh yeah, my repair was ESP also. I guess the most noticeable differences I see in our two repair order pricing was both my heads were replaced at $567.95 each and my oil cooler at $207.95. Did your dealer reuse these items on your repair?

An interesting read, I am on my first HD and riding it plenty fast and far.
Its a FLHTP Police spec, civilian bike.
107 2017 100% stock including fluids, tyres, exhausts, CAT, etc.
My questions are:
Its a FLHTP Police spec, civilian bike.
107 2017 100% stock including fluids, tyres, exhausts, CAT, etc.
My questions are:
- Is it a good idea to tune an old school pushrod V Twin? Surely there is only so much reliable performance out of these old goats.
- Reading tales of failures on FB, it seems all the broken ones were tuned.
- Are M8's coming out of the factory in 2022 with plastic cuffs?

Welcome to the Harley family and congratulations on your new bike. I’m sure it’s pretty awesome over in Ireland on two wheels.
You use the word “Tune” which I believe is what we call upgrading or adding Stage kits which increase cubic inches and also add a new tune for the upgraded parts.
I know there was a lot of discussion early in 2017 with the new M8 sumping with stage kits installed. It turns out the oil pump could not keep up. That has been resolved by HD for the most part and there are very good aftermarket options. My stock 114 did not sump, and it did not sump with the addition of the stage III and new oil pump.
I’m sure HD will continue to ship with the plastic cuffs. Most likely just a dollars and cents thing. Of course what I have learned is the lifter is the bigger of the problems over the cuffs. Pretty sure the lifter failed first and then the cuff allowed it to turn.
Don’t over think it too much. Enjoy your ride with confidence, keep her serviced and add quality components.
