I guess I'll have to wait for FM to respond to my email on Monday, but hopefully they'll respond tomorrow.
Not sure why you can claim that the 2 flats are not ground down screws. How can you drill a hole not all the way through and have the hole appear on the edges? To me it looks like exactly the same hole as the others. They ran a screw through, peened it over, then ground it flat. Clean the area with contact cleaner, then a little bit of salty water or cold gun blue should show up the difference between the screw and the base (aluminum?) .

The base and the screw are both steel... tested with a magnet. The only part that's aluminum is the basket itself. Whether they were longer screws peened over or an issue with the machining of that part, this shouldn't have gotten past QC. I'm going to box it up and prepare it for it's return trip to FM.

The spots in question are part of the assembly process, Evolution Industries recently started applying a TIG weld to secure the fastener to the steel ring gear on two of the bolts at 180 degree positions, they then smooth the weld down to ensure engine case clearance. All of the current Evo Industries clutch baskets in our inventory are built this way. If the bearing is making noise its very likely because it's dry, you can verify this by adding a couple drops of oil to the rollers.

Soaking the friction plates in primary fluid overnight. Can't wait to get this all buttoned up!
